FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How much of my information is made public?
All your contact information is private.  All communication between members is facilitated in the safe environment of the site, without disclosing email accounts, phone numbers, or street addresses.  We only reveal general location information (city and state) if you chose to provide it.  You are in complete control of who you share your information with, and how.
What are the differences between the types of internships (Shadow, Project and Blended)?
  1. A Shadow internship is centered around the supervisor’s duties.  The intern “shadows” the supervisor, learning from and supporting the supervisor in a variety of responsibilities.
  2. A Project internship is focused on a specific project.  The intern commits most of the time to accomplishing the project, and may interface with more than one supervisor.
  3. A Blended internship is a combination of both of these types.  There is usually a designated supervisor who oversees the intern who works on several different projects.
What if I need an intern/internship that spans several semesters? What dates should I use?
Use the start date for the internship.  (Spring: January-April, Summer: May-August, Fall: September-December)  Include the actual dates  in the details or in a comment.
How do I cancel my membership?
Go to account settings (located near the bottom of  the navigation area on the left side of your screen)

SUPERVISORS

I’m getting too many applicants. How to I hide an internship until I’m ready to award it or to accept more applications?
Go to your dashboard and click on the edit button next to the internship you want to hide.  Scroll down to the bottom of the edit page and click on the circle next to “Hidden” in the opportunity status area, then click on “Update.”
How do I delete an internship from my dashboard?
Go to your dashboard and click on the edit button next to the internship you want to delete.  Scroll down to the bottom of the edit page and click on the circle next to “Delete” in the opportunity status area, then click on “Update.”  You will get a second request for confirmation.
Why doesn’t my profile show up on the alphabetical member page?
You haven’t built your profile yet.

INTERNS

How can I make my profile more searchable?
When you enter details about your interests in your profile, be sure to include terms that a supervisor using a keyword search might use.  (For instance, if you have a particular interest in working with an orchestra, put “orchestra,” “classical music,” and similar terms in your interest details so that a supervisor with that expertise or need could find your profile using those search terms.)
What happens when I click on the Apply button?
You will be prompted to upload a resume document and write an introductory message (cover letter).  When you have your materials ready, you submit them to the supervisor (you will receive a confirmation email). The supervisor reviews the applications and has options to reply to your introductory message, set aside your application, or award the internship.
How will I know if my application has been set aside and/or the internship has been awarded to someone else?
Check the status of the opportunity.  If the internship has been awarded, the detail page will show that with a message.  If the internship hasn’t been awarded and it is after the deadline, feel free to post a comment or send a message to the supervisor asking for an update on its status.
